1974 Porsche 911 Targa review from North America
"Great sportscar with plenty of smiles per mile!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Pulled head studs on engine, CIS failed.
General comments?
I bought my 911 used on eBay in 6/2002 and drove it for about 4 years before the head studs on the engine failed. When I replaced the engine with a recently rebuilt engine from another '74 911, I switched the CIS injection over to Weber carbs, installed a new Sachs clutch, new rear shocks, new fuel lines, etc...
The car runs great now and I drove it 3300 miles to/from Florida in 3/2007. I drive the car during the summer on dry days and store the car during the winter. Repair and maintenance costs are not bad at all and parts are easily sourced and readily available with very few exceptions. The online Porsche community is very helpful and the local Porsche clubs are great.
I love this car and I will always have a Porsche 911 in my garage for those nice sunny days that beg for the Porsche to be driven!
