1977 Porsche 911 SC review from North America
"The 1978 911sc coupe is one hell of a car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Sunroof cable and guide track failed soon after purchase.
The air conditioning has never really worked.
Timing chain tensioner was collapsed when I bought the car (how would I know); replaced with Carrera tensioners.
Alternator died (on the freeway of course while my wife was driving) at 101,500 miles.
Transmission synchros had to be replaced at 102,000 miles.
Clutch and cable were also replaced at 102,000 miles.
General comments?
This car is quick and powerful! A real joy to drive. I had read many articles about the driving experience, but I was still not prepared for the 911. Don't waste money on a stereo, just roll down the windows and press the accelerator to the floor.
1st gear is for climbing trees, 2nd gear takes you away from the masses at the street light, 3rd gear is the city street killer, 4th gear is for the freeway (55-70mph), and 5th gear is for the autobahn.
This car has a functioning rear seat - not a large seat, but a seat none the less.
Cornering is great. The only time the rear end has ever let loose was in a drizzling rain as I approached a freeway on-ramp.
My best day is overcast, about 75 degrees... with no one else in front of me on the freeway on-ramp. Sunroof open, windows down, shifting from 3rd gear at 60mph into 4th. Hair on fire, and 5th gear in my future.
The bad: A/C sucks!
