I bought this car with a lot of physical faults. The front windshield was cracked, no parking brakes, the right headlight didn't work, numerous paint chips and dents everywhere, but I LOVE this car. Thankfully, there was no rust.
To date, nothing more has gone wrong with the car.
For a 30 year old car, I haven't driven anything close to the level of performance this car has shown. Where else are you going to find $4500 of blissful driving experience? Keep in mind that this is an old car and it is somewhat of a chore to drive.
This car is a bit underpowered (135hp) compared with more powerful cars these days. When you factor in the handling and braking though, the Porsche is made for road courses and not for drag racing.
Don't buy a classic if you don't want to get your hands dirty or don't have lots of cash because the repairs will cost you. If you have some mechanical inclination, you can tackle most of the problems that arises.
I have spent a huge volumen of time money and labor on these sensational cars they are not a machine for all those of us who love to drive, porsches are made for those of us who will tax the absolute maximum extreme edge of the laws of physics with a car and still survive. Correctly developed any 911 will demonstrate the integrity of its designers as many pilots have done in these cars all over the worlds race tracks, no bells no whistles no lures, all form dictates function, they offered us a sensational spectrum from the 912 to the full house dual turbo 911s at aproximating 900 hp and then some. My experience is limited to development of the pre 1974 cars driven daily, tuned at the likes of 2.7 liters normally aspirated 10:1 cr extensive porting polished cyl heads modified cams from web cam racing valve springs webber carbs (36 mm venturis) the engine turns 9000 rpm, the gear box is a 915 from a75 s 5 spd (guys it will bolt in directly, just swap the axle phalanges from the 901 on to the 915 box the speedometer cable from the 75 car must be used) the body and suspension are stock with the exeption of a set of konis the factorys front rear stabilizers 6 in fuchs alloys and what ever good tires I can find. The interior is gutted and 944 seats are it (I am looking at 914 seats they are ultra light) for the office dept.My results are a furious little machine that vaporizes new/er ridiculously expensive, heavy, unstable, high center of gravity dangerous, under designed, under developed vehicles. At full sprint the jolt can only be measured in magavoltz at undescribable amperage nearly the best" tranquilazer" known to me. (full house 4 cylinder hondas and a woman rate at 2 1 respectively) Needless to say I love these cars their family of design and in essence the honesty and selflesness which they reflect. There are other cars which are possibly more passionate than porsches and that go without say,are the italian cars yes I was once eaten by a miura, homygosh the scars remain,I was never the same after that.Any how those cars remain out of my reach to the level that Iwould have to modify them...yes one of those nice... v 10..s...that slid of the track and wounded up in the trash can...yes... may...be...not any thing is possible... only any thing good is possible. zubidooI@aol.com
