1978 Porsche 911 SC review from UK and Ireland
"A true classic, outrageous handling sports car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought it I thought it was in mint condition, but a few days later I realised there were a few minor things wrong, but nothing too bad:
Exhaust manifold gasket split and
exhaust compression lost.
Poor 2-plate clutch slipping.
1 window seal became loose.
It wasn't too easy getting the gasket or the window seal, but hey that's the price to pay for having a sports car.
General comments?
The best word I can use to describe this car would probably be gripping. I'd test-driven a brand new 911 turbo at my local Porsche dealer (not that I had the money to buy one!) and I thought it was fantastic. As soon as I tried this car, the decrease in power was noticeable, but the car was so much exhilirating. You have to try this car out to know what I mean - the ride is low and very fast, then when you take a corner the car pulls you in vicously, even at low (er) speeds. It's not the easiest car to drive, but it is a true sports car - just make sure you take control of the car and not the other way round.
I've haven't quite had this car for a month yet so I cannot really comment on reliability yet, but I'll post another review in 6 months or so.
