Hi

Further to my 1989 turbo overheat - the funny thing is, it will tick over all day in the correct temp reading band - fan comes on appropriately. When I drive off, within 30 minutes, the temp goes up to 3/4 or red!

Whats going on?!

Excellent article about this car. I have a 1986 944 Turbo that I bought new that has been sitting in a garage for years. It has under 40,000 original miles, is completely original and is only taken out once a year for inspection and updating. It is about as mint as you can find.

This is the vehicle that lead to Porsche's biggest recall when the fuel line breaking problem was detected for these cars. I drove it a few years, and decided I did not want another Porsche after how poorly they treated me after the recall and stuck it in a garage.

After reading this article, I am thinking of getting it back out and driving it again.

Hey TC. Lucky you! If your car's as original as that, you have a real gem. I have an'87 944T which is a cracker, but at 40k yours has to be the lowest mileage I've seen for ages!

Please get it back on the road ASAP!!!

Hi there, this question is to the guy which wrote the excellent turbo article!

My name's Daniel and I have a lovely 87 944 turbo. When I bought the car, I found the boost of the turbo overwhelming and couldn't get enough of the power. Then months later, one day I noticed that it just was not as powerful on boost.

Then the other day I wanted to inspect my cambelt, and after removing the air filter box, I noticed the short rubber pipe that goes into the metal air duct pipe, then into a thin metal pipe, which am not sure where it goes, but goes under the manifold towards the bulk head somewhere I think. I thought it's some sort of vacuum air pipe that maybe gets monitored by the ECU. Anyway, I gave it a DIY fix as it was split.

Hoping that I had brought the lost power back, I went for a very long drive and there was no difference. I had also really rich smelling fumes, which were coming into the cabin for a while now. These had seemed to reduce a little, but no more power.

However the next day I used the car to go to the shops, and put my foot down in 3rd and was doing 45mph and noticed that it was so much quicker to catapult me to 100mph just like when I bought her!! Then I was very heavy footed for an hour where I was just about to change gear at 6000 rpm in 3rd, and the revs just dropped and the car died. I checked that my belt hadn't broke, then saw the pipe had split again in another spot under pressure. After the second time fixing that pipe, the power has never returned, could you tell me why? Was wondering if it has anything to do with the ECU resetting itself and if there anything I can do?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Dan.
