1989 Porsche 944 LUX review from UK and Ireland

"I love it, a pleasure to drive and own"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I first got the car it had done less that 500 miles in the previous year and a 1,000 miles the year before that, so initially there were a few small problems. The secondary fan cut-out failed and since I was on a trip when it happened, I had to manually turn it off each time I stopped the car. This caused the bonnet release catch to be put under strain and it too failed. The two items together cost about £300.00 to fix, I had this work done at the local Porsche dealership. I also had problems with the alarm being over-sensitive, but the problem was fixed by a quick adjustment.

General comments?

My car is a joy to drive and own. It is in mint condition and has a full service history and all the supporting documentation. Including all invoices and tax disks since it was first registered and MOT certificates since the first one.

It is a beautiful car to look at and has been very reliable and a great deal of fun to drive.

I am continuing to baby this beautiful car and was delighted to hear from two Porsche dealers that it is the best car of its age they have ever seen and with the lowest mileage. I am regularly stopped in the street when parking and asked about the car. On two occasions I have actually received offers to buy it, but the car is staying with me for the foreseeable future.

As well as being beautiful my car is fast and responsive and a real dual-use car. Driven like a sedan it is comfortable, quiet, economical and reliable. But take the sunroof out, roll down the windows and put your foot down and it becomes a real sports car! The first time I drove it the power actually took me by surprise. I pulled out to over take one car and ended up passing three with no effort at all.

My main comment is that these are wonderful cars, but need to be treated with the love they deserve. Regular maintenance and care for the bodywork and interior is money and time well-spent and my car is a source of endless pleasure. I love to drive it, care for it and look forward too many years of enjoyment.
