Flywheel vibration dampener cracked at about 75,000 miles. Seats have started to wear badly, but one must consider the age. Engine flywheel heat scored, and the flyheel required resurfacing, and the flywheel vibration dampener replaced at 164,000 miles. Water pump replaced every 50,000 miles along with the timing belts and associated running gear. The car's alternator and radiator, thermostat replaced between 115,000-135,000 miles. Power steering rack and pinon unit replaced at approx 150,000 miles.
I consider this a fabulous handling car. It has been driven on winding roads, straight roads, desert reads, mountain roads and the result is always the same. The car rides like it is on rails. The 944 has been pretty reliable. I wish Porsche had just given it more power as an automatic.
I was just given a 1987 Porsche 944 by my dad as a graduation gift even though I have another year of high school. I think this car was the perfect gift I love it and would never get rid of it for any amount of money mostly because even though my car is older than me it looks a lot better then most cars you see on the road that are only a couple of years old. It doesn't have any rust spots on it and the inside looks brand new I don't know if its because my dad took such good care of it or what but I do know that it is a great running car. I know that this car will stay in the family for a long time, it almost killed my dad to give it to me, and I would never sell it I love it.
