1992 Porsche 968 Coupe review from Germany
"A cheap way to begin to enjoy performance Porsche ownership"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
So a recent purchase. This will be a list for myself to comment on later.
Items on the to-do list include:
Rear Windscreen surround, (black stripe), is damaged. Probably necessitates a new screen. Only leaks in the car-wash so I won't be going there again.
Gearbox lever gaiter to be replaced.
Rear hatch interior light doesn't come on when I open the rear hatch, (does when I open the door).
Paintwork needs attention, (lots of
stone chips)
No other issues (touch-wood)
General comments?
Cheap Porsche ownership. Newer than 944. 240 PS means, but not FUN. We shall see if it turns out to be not enough fun for me. Driving position is OK, but the wheel does sit low in your knees. Gear-change a little tricky. Springs and 'feel' not good enough for fast changes. Perhaps it grows on you, but my Audi 6 speed was far better and more definite, (car was 3 years newer).
Seats are comfortable for me. Car rides hard and doesn't roll. I have yet to play at speed, but I think it should be OK. Engine sounds good, but not wonderful when revved. It is a car I have wanted for a while and as said, a cheap way to own a Porsche - servicing costs less than a 944 at my local dealership). Fairly practical with fold-down rear seats and a fair bit of space inside - far better than my Fiat coupe. Despite being 10 years old, it is still solid and tight and showing its quality. After my FIAT it is a joy to be back in German engineering.
