2003 Porsche Cayenne review from North America
"Great vehicle, great performance, not cheap"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
None.
General comments?
Great handling. Tows heavy loads with ease (no problems pulling a 993 on a trailer at any speed up hill). Points like a sport car on the track (it does have a LOT more mass, though) and easily beats the Boxster there (in timed laps). With active suspension it was surprising to see how little body roll there is when cornering at speed. The SUV is very confidence inspiring to anyone who is into performance driving. Off road and in mud and snow the high performance tires are useless, however (as one would expect). Mine came with 20" tires that are great in any condition except snow. In the snow I would recommend the Dunlop WT M2 tires 235/60/R18. These tires give the vehicle the same confident stance in the snow that the others give it on the track. If you really need more traction still, switch on the "reduction" (it will be in 6th gear by the time you hit 25 mph) or if that is not enough add the lock (at this time you can climb and descend gradients you would have trouble walking). No technical or mechanical problems to date. As I was used to the oil requirements in several other Porsche the quart of oil per 600 miles of hard driving was no surprise.
