"A budget performance car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Central Lock Jammed (have been rectified at 1K service)

Strange sound (sounds like nyek nyek nyek?) from the car when going through uneven road. Not sure coming from inside or outside. Till now still can't figure out where it is coming from.

General comments?

A very very good handling car.

Way better than my previous proton wira 1.5. Performance is awesome considering it's just a 1.6 l engine. If you want a good performance car get this gen2 CPS. You'll not regret it.

F/C is not bad also. Currently averaging 6.3 to 6.4L/100 km in city driving and 6.2 to 6.3L in highway cruising after my 1k service. Really not bad at all for a 125hp rated 1.6L car. and I race it quite a lot too. MYvis, Vioses, Cities all got smoked. Don;t get carried away though it is still a 1.6 car you won't win against civic vtech. But that;s still OK it still mile better than most car of the same category (handling and engine performance only, interior just plain disappointing).

The interior is leather trimmed with black and red finish. Look quite nice. However the interior finishing lack quality. There is gap everywhere. Button installed are super cheap one. That one is very bad from Proton. The steering wheel looks cheap unfortunately and feels cheap also. Since it have airbag cannot replace it.

Engine sounds loud so it is not a quite car. Not really that loud either. I will change to a sportier exhaust muffler on this gen2 after the warranty expires as I think the one on this car is too quiet. For a performance car like this it should really roars not just in front but also from the back.

Exterior looks very good especially from front as it has smoked lamp. Back is not so pretty but still OK compared to myvi ugly backside (city also). It has 15 inch alloy sport rims and spoiler attached at the back. Probably will change to other sport rim in the future but for now the one installed is decent enough. Proton should install HID on this gen2 CPS just as they have it on Waja CPS.

Overall I am very satisfied with my new gen2 CPS and recommending it. I don't know how the Auto gen2 CPS performs, but the manual ROCKS! I'll give it a 3.5 rating out of 5. To compete with other car manufacturers proton need to improve interior quality.

Your opinion is quite close to mine. The F/C is considered acceptable for a 1.6 L car. If you owned other 1.6 L cars as well (Sentra, Altis etc), you will agree. The overall styling is daring and stands out from others, including oversea cars in similar category. Further refinements will make it an even more outstanding car.

As I am from the automotive field, after weighing the technology used, engine BHP/torque, ride/handling, stability and styling, it stands out from others coming from a similar category... I tried to challenge the Vios and City... They can't even tail me. I even drove in parallel with 350Z at 180 kph before (Of course referring only the top speed is compatible, but not the acceleration like a 3.5 L car). I am still proud and satisfied to own this car at this price and maintenance.

* Easy solution for your nyek... nyek... nyek... sound at the back of the car. You could look for the metal contact/press traces on the hatchback door hinges (Where the paintwork had been wore off due to rubbing) at the end of the roof top. It is normal, these are the points where the hatchback door is applying the force on. You can just keep them lubricated to prevent the squeezing sound as there is slight movement when driving. I studied this issue before and did it on mine, it works.

Hi I'm the one who did the initial review and need to state that the nyek nyek sound is indeed from the backseat. It's not properly installed. Poor QC from Proton. However it was rectified during my 15K service at a small Proton service center. I did try complaining during 5K and 10K service but the service center doesn't seem to be bothered. Mind you that service center is the main HQ service center in my State.

So I switched to a smaller service center for my 15K service and they were much much more better at entertaining my complaint. They solved the problem and until now the sound is permanently gone. Congratulations to that small service center and shame on it's bigger brother. It seems like Proton SC still have that old attitude problem in attending their customer dissatisfaction. However not all SC is infected with that attitude problem. Try a smaller Proton SC you might be surprised. Right now I'm very happy with my gen2 cps and my baby is going to be 1 year old soon.

If you see a gen2 cps don't even bother trying to race it if your car is just normal. You'll not even get close to it. CPS acceleration is indeed awesome compared to other similar standard production car. If there is anything close to its performance it's probably the Suzuki swift sport version.

To the first dude.

The nek nek nek sound comes from the rear of your car. The 2 back wheels are making that sound. I had the same problem. It's all fixed now. It's great to have a quiet car. Go fix it at your service center.

Mine was free. Dunno if yours will be.

Sounds like the Gen-2 is only good for racing... Most of us non-racers who need a reliable car with low maintenance should look elsewhere then.

My wife has a 1.3 Auto since Oct 2005. Running well and very comfortable. Although it is not for racing, only commuting from home to work everyday, friend's new Honda City find it hard to overtake this car.

Mine was auto transmission (sux Proton for not having manual in stock). At the first I was quite regretting buying the auto transmission because of the vroom sound when you tried to overtake. However after the 1st service, I really am proud of my gen 2 CPS A/T. Able to accelerate till 160 km/h without vibration, smooth running, and the vroom sound is no longer obvious. Fuel consumption is so-so, average FC is 5.3 l/100km which is not so burden. However, 1st service was tooooooo expensive compare to other Proton cars. RM250 for 1st 1000km??? Yaaaaaaaa. I didn't expect such a value at all. Am I being cheated by the Proton service center?? Share your experiences ;)

Got my Gen2 CPS last week and now it is exactly 1 week old. I'm going for the 1K service tomorrow. During the 7 days with my Gen2 I had a couple of problems.

1) Fuel consumption is high about 7L/100KM (I hope that this will reduce after my 1st service)

2) Seatbelt lamp indication doesn't turn on even though I did not put on the seatbelt.

3) The back seat doesn't lock properly as it always folds down when I had a sudden stop.

4) I fill up the tank when the fuel indicator is just below the empty bar, and to my surprise saw that the tank is full with just RM65.20, which I find odd. I owned a Proton Saga LMST before and full tank is about RM80. I read some reviews on the Gen2 CPS and most of them said that the full tank is RM100.

5) The air conditioning is making a weird sound when I start the car in the morning.

6) The wheel is making a weird sound when I accelerate the car from 0km/hour.

Apart from the above problems, I am quite satisfied with my Gen2 CPS. Even though the interior is quite poor with some gaps here and there, it still look nice and comfortable when you are actually inside the car.

As for the audio system, I can say that it is quite satisfactory. I am going to install subwoofer after my 1st service. Anybody know where to get Ipod interface as I tried to look for it in many audio shop and even email Blaupunkt to get them to quote me the price, but no reply had been received from them?

Overall the Gen2 is a decent car for Malaysians, but I believe Proton can improve in term of quality control.
