"Pocket rocket and awesome handling if driven properly!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing as yet.

General comments?

I've read a lot of negative comments about the Proton Satria GTI and just wanted to clear up a few things. Some people say this car is overrated and is slow, they've either not driven one or don't know how to drive a performance car.

When driven properly this car can be seriously rapid and has the handling to match. Granted mine has done relatively low mileage and I meticulously maintain it, but I also drive it extremely hard. In that I regularly redline it through the gears and the car sceams for more.

I live in Birmingham, UK near Sparkhill and we have the most awesome stretches of roads with roundabouts scattered in between. When flooring it from the lights, flicking through the gears and not slowing down even through the roundbouts the car shows its true qualities. It accelerates like a rocket and handles like its on rails. Lotus have done an excellent job. I've seen 70 mph on the speedo in second, and this is a naturally aspirated car. And the sound is intoxicating at that rev range range.

This is one awesome car and for all you owners out there who are disappointed with the performance I eriously advise you to get out there on some open stretches of road and cane your car for once. Only then will you know the true potential the car has. This is coming from a Civic VTEC, Impreza WRX and MR2 GTS (turbo) owner so for all you people out there who are thinking I've probably never driven anything remotely fast think again.

I truly recommend this car for the serious street racer, not for someone who will buy it and not rev it past 5k rpm. If you have the money get a newish one with low miles. Enjoy!

Yes you are right the car does handle well.

But is just TOO SLOW to be classed as a Hot Hatch. It is far to heavy and the engine lacks bhp and torque in which it needs to move its weight!

Handle it can, but Speed it is "seriously lacking"!

As said in other comments "THE CAR IS ALL SHOW AND NO GO!"

Get an induction kit for it and use a homemade cold air feed from the front valance, de-cat and get a good quality free-flowing exhaust. This will make it much more nippier. If you want even more power then get the head seen to and get it remapped. The engines are the same as the colt's and can give awesome power.

Just drop an EVO engine in. That'd sort out the problem's.

Then you may as well buy an Evo!

This car is an awesome car. If you have bother with the speed, turbo it, simple as that. Put a hefty induction kit in it, will give you more power than just about any other hot hatch. I own one and if you think it's slow, I have beaten 3 ltr BMW's and a 3.5 ltr V8 on a rolling start. Trust me, it's no slow car.

All Show & No Go??? man!!! are you guys sure you know what you're saying??? Stock standard with no mods, the Satria GTI has 150 ponies under its hood... You don't even have to go for forced induction (to me turbo-charged/supercharged cars are liken to be like taking viagras just to artificially improve your sexual performance), just do an ecu chip remapping, kill the cat, increase your throttle body size... it truly be a pocket rocket...

I dragged a Subaru Forester STi Turbo. I beat him, and he asked if my car was stock; I said yes.

The guy who says this car is slow must be driving the latest Ferrari or some other supercar, or he could be Harry Schumacher himself.
