1993 Proton Wira XLi review from Malaysia
"Avoid Proton"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The left-hand side (passenger front) power windows failed, had it repaired at the Proton Service Center. They gave me a warranty of 30 days. On the 40th day, it went on the blink again. They refused to replace it. I used the windows like 4 times only. Really shoddy quality motor. I sold it really cheap because there was a crack on the chassis where the engine was mounted. I had not lent the car to anyone or had it been involved in any accident. Just used it for driving the kids to and fro school, regular shopping runs. Took it to the factory and they told me it was going to be a very costly repair (had to remove engine, etc.) and they won't warranty it at all. The seat base is made on coconut husk fillings and "sank in" over the years. The tail lamps were constantly filled with water (from rain). The seals were bad.
General comments?
Just bad quality car, made from bad quality source assembly components.
No choice because other car makes carried very high import duties.
The newer models are not any better, from what I hear. Always besieged with irritating minor problems.
