The automatic gearbox. Apparently it is a common fault on the Renault 25 automatic version. The forward clutch housing cracked in the box and needed to be replaced. I kept my original gearbox and had it repaired. The total cost of the operation is £500.
Accelerator pedal return spring snapped on it. Had to pull the pedal back with my foot when I was driving!
Boot keeps opening when you go in a pothole or ramp on the road. New boot lock needed, this is also a common fault.
I like the car a lot. It is the TXI model and has all leather interior, full electrics and even a trip computer that tells you if anything is wrong with the car such as a door not being shut or if a light has blown and needs to be replaced.
The dashboard is nicely set out and there is ample space inside the car as well. The boot is quite big too. The instrumental panel tells you everything, if the car needs servicing or if you have to stop because of a problem, it even tell you when the screen wash level is low. Everything you can imagine is included in this car.
I agree.
I've bought a R25 used with 170.000 km.. now has 500.000 km!! Now I'm changing car, but "she!" will stay in my heart till the end.. Well done RENAULT!
My dad has been driving with Renault since he got his drivers license, now he's 52, and bought himself a scenic. The car we have now is a 25 TXI 1992, nice car, but we do have some problems with it.
The doors won't open properly anymore, probably age.
The electrical lock on the boot doesn't function as supposed to, sometimes it refuses to open.
The dashboard light for the watertank (window-sprayers) always lights up, we shorted it out.
The memory for the driver seat doesn't work, shorted that out too.
That's about it!
It still is a really great car, 180 km/h with a 1 year old car, without shaking! love the car.
