2002 Renault Clio Expression review from UK and Ireland

ECU light came on this week, indicating an emissions problem according to the handbook.

Car was losing power & only just made it home.

Took it to garage today & they found that wiring loom has been abraded inside the so called secure black box at rear of the engine bay.

The cover of this box is not secured & has been moving about & rubbing through the loom.

Garage has removed the cover, insulated the offending cables & covered the area with mastic, & also reset the ECU to remove the fault light.

This is probably a temporary fix & it's likely I'll need a new wiring loom at a quoted cost of £200 in the future.

This is not a main dealer, but it's by no means the first time they've encountered this & similar problems with Clios.

This is my wife's car and she loves it.

I have never been enamoured & think it's tinny, flimsy & poorly put together.

I also find the steering very woolly.

This car has only done 21000miles in 6 years & I think it very likely we'd have many more faults

had it covered a higher mileage!

Is it possible that the person who posted a comment on 13/5/2006 about finding a wiring loom on the internet for £46 + VAT could let me know where he got it from, & was it a genuine Renault part??
