2002 Renault Clio 172 Sport review from UK and Ireland
"Good performance, but expensive when it goes wrong!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Mid and rear sections of exhaust totally knackered at 39000 miles. Cheaper to buy a custom stainless steel exhaust than rubbish Renault one!!
Headlight jets no longer work.
General rattles and creaks.
Had two diagnostic tests as I thought the engine sounded really bad!! ie lumpy idle, popping from exhaust, general rubbish sound on start up. I then found out it was normal for them; a characteristic of this vehicle (what a waste of £90!!!)
Water pump failed at 59000; £200.
Power steering pump failed at 61000; £485!! Having this done tomorrow as it whines like hell!!
Cambelt/auxbelt changed at 50000; £500, which really annoyed, as the grease monkey told me it was not important to change the water pump at the same time; BIG MISTAKE!! AS IT FAILED NOT LONG AFTER!!
General comments?
The car handles very well and has plenty of power;
it's just a shame it was put together so badly and that components that are supposed to last a lot longer fail.
If you want a good driving time, buy one.
If you don't have a lot of money, don't!! As they are a money pit!!!
