Not had any major problems as such (touch wood!). Just general where and tear. The rear arches on all Clio 1's tend to be prone to rust, mine have just started to get very small bubbles on the very edge of the arch, but I am going to get them sorted and then underseal the lot!. You don't have to worry about the front though as they are galvanised. They other problem I had was the exhaust nocking under acceleration, but I had the mounts replaced witch sorted that out. I also had a bolt on the anti-roll bar replaced as it had lost the top bush and was lose on one side.
For a 1.4 its fast (80 bhp) and in standard form handles well too. I have had mine lowered, and got performance ignition leads, spark plugs and air filter and have the clio RSI wheels on it which vastly improves handling, road holding and looks.
The best thing is that its only group 5 insurance and has electric windows, power steering, remote central locking, electric mirrors, front fog lights, body coloured bumpers, air bag, rev counter and remotely controlled stereo with six speakers.
The seats are quite nice and comfortable, although they don't hold you
enough if your driving fast. The drivers seat has a lumber adjustment, and all the controls for windows etc are all to hand. A nice touch is a foot rest for your left leg so if your cruising on the motorway you're not putting your foot under the clutch. The boots big enough and fits my two ten inch subs in fine! and even has a bit of space left over. If your in to doing your stereo, then you will be happy to know the spare wheel is located under the car and not in the boot.
Insurance AND boy racers dream?
I had this such car for a couple of points and the review is certainly valid, but apart from myself I have never seen a boy racer drive this car! Apart from being a "boy racers dream" it is also a suitably reliable car for geriatric hoards to buy them. Don't get me wrong - when lowered as you suggest it looks the business - but it does not have the look of a boy racers car unmodified - the back end would look conservative in Eastbourne. Newer Clios and "Sport" versions are much preferable if looks are your thing.
Yes O.K, the newer Clio's may look a little more smooth, but still look pretty boring. If you want, you can go and buy a new Clio, but with the money I saved from getting my 1.4 RT, I put a K-Tec Racing KTR Combat body kit on. Check it out at www.k-tecracing.com and then think about what you could have had. Does a new Clio still look better???!!!
I have just brough a clio rt 1.4. as my first car. I am only 17. picked it up for £1800.looks sweet, its black and its got more gadgets than I thought it would have. great little runner and resonable insurance. nice website!

I'm 18 and bought an RT for 200. Spent 200 getting it up to Standard spec (fan motor, sunroof seal, clutch) and it's a great first car. It does OK on the motorway (I did London to the Lake District with no problems) and it's cheap to run and insure. Great 1st car. I want a 16v next year.
I've bought a 16v the oteher day, its trying to overheat already which is annoying so I've got to get that sorted. As for the performance, well you can just wave at any saxo as you cover them in dust.
