1995 Renault Clio Williams 3 review from UK and Ireland
"Ultimate hot hatch drivers car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
First the ratchet mechanism in the clutch pedal went and the rocker cover gasket, not expensive.
Recently the front wheel bearing went.
General comments?
This is the ultimate hot hatch!
The first thing I like about the Williams 3 is that it is one of 300 in the UK so is very rare. The pearlecent and metallic paint comes alive in the sun and looks amazing with the cars wide arches and bonnet vent.
Performance is instant and brutal. I have fitted a k-tec racing de-cat pipe and full magnet s/s exhaust and also a pipercoss induction kit. The car now breathes properly and is much quicker and more responsive than standard. it will reach its rev limited speed of 130 mph with ease, every time you take it past 5500 rpm you get a massive wooshing noise from the induction kit and a loud pop when you change gear.. it sounds like a rally car!
Handling is perfect. I have fitted goodyear eagle F1's all round, but it is totaly standard apart from that. You can throw the car into just about any corner and it responds perfectly.
The Williams is a good everyday car aswell as it is totaly reliable IF properly maintained and driven. I have changed the oil and filter using mobil 1 oil every 3k, aswell as getting itserviced every 6k. The engine is never driven hard or above 2500 rpm until oil is fully warm. Because of driving it like this I have no mechanical problems and the car runs sweet.
