"The car is useless at the minute"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I have had a renault clio 1.2 from new. Bought it from the Renault Dealer, So it's now about 4+ years old. Had no problems with it until November last year. The car started to judder. It can happen whilst you are traveling at speed the gearstick will start shaking and there is a lose of power. Also this can happen when in traffic or coming up to a junction. It feel like the car is going to stop and it's not ticking over properly. Anyway I took it into the Renault Dealer and they assured me it was a faulty wiring loom. So this was changed at a cost £320 got the car back and it's still doing the same thing. Took it back in to the garage and now they don't what the fault is as the diagonostic machine does come up with any fault codes. So they have suggested it could be the injection system which they said is £600 but they don't know for sure. Can anyone help me on this matter?

General comments?

Please help on this matter if possible. It looks this is a common fault on clio's.

I have had the very same problem with my Clio. I bought my car 4 years this April and have had constant problems with the car juddering and cutting out. It does make you feel a bit stupid to passers-by as it looks like you have stalled and are unable to control your car!

I have taken the car into the garage several times now and each time something different has been altered, changed, cleaned... and the fault still remains. All in, this car is quite good to drive, but this fault does let it down. I have given up now on the fact that it will never be fixed. It gets me from A to B safely and I suppose that's what matters.

I had same problems with my Clio; it was found to be a sensor in the gearbox. Get that checked before the dealer fleeces you!!!

I have the same problem several time, apparently a reoccurring fault in Renaults. There are 4 ignition coils under the bonnet that from time to time need replacing, hence the loss of power and shaking gearstick. Should this happen again you are better off calling the RAC or AA and getting them to replace at £40.95. They have shown my partner how to fit them, and a set of 4 can be purchased on eBay for as little as £40.

Hope this helps.
