Engine suddenly lost power and cut out.
Will only restart briefly and cuts out again.
Diagnostic computer does not read any faults.
Have had this much loved little car for a few years now, which has been trouble free until last week. Had just done a problem free 300 mile trip, then it suddenly lost power and cut out (on my first day back at work)!
It has been at my local garage on the diagnostic computer - reading no fault, an x Renault mechanic also put it on a reader and once again - no fault. Now has gone to Renault dealership (£££'s) which I suspect will also come back with no fault. Local garage thankfully aren't charging me, but I have only limited use of their courtesy car.
If any serious suggestions, please contact me at: a.cheshire@ukonline.co.uk as I desperately don't want to sell and can't afford another car!
Hello
I have a friend who experienced the same problem some time ago (not with a Renault) : he found that the catalytic converter was blocked (the interior collapsed somehow). He couldn't read, like you, any error codes, but one of the mechanics had the brilliant idea to check the exhaust and he realised that no 'breath' is coming out from the muffler. I suggest you to check the same, maybe is the same situation. Good luck.
Hi there, not sure if you still have this problem, but I have just had the exact thing with my clio 1.2 2002.
I took it to a garage and mechanic friend has fixed the problem, one of 2 reasons why mine was cutting out all the time was:
1. Fuel lines blocked, needed cleaning, bleeding etc.
2. (Main problem) The throttle housing/body was filled with dirt, tree bits etc.
Touch wood that this has sorted out the problem as I have only driven it a mile or so now so will test it going to work.
PS If you have found out the problem, I would like to know, just encase it still occurs in my car!
Cheers mate hope it helps.
Ken.
I too had a problem like this. The car started to become very juddery and not a very smooth ride.
Then as I was going to work a light on the dash stared flashing and I couldn't get any power out of the car what so ever.
Took it to kwik fit, they told me it was catalytic converter blocked causing the car to misfire and advised me to go to a Renault dealer.
Now I have just booked it in for a exam on Monday at a Renault specialist... hopefully to find exactly whats wrong !!

We too had the problem, so we took it to Renault dealership. We said that the throttle housing needed cleaning, so he did and we hope it stays working.
I too had a similar problem with my Renault Clio 1.2 Grande. It would fail to start intermittently and then started cutting out whilst driving. Had it in and out of a garage and various sensors were replaced, costing me about £400 in total. One morning it would not start at all so called out the RAC. The fab RAC man told me that it was because there was a fault with the immobiliser. He recommended that I get a new transponder key fob which I could get from Renault for £100 - £150! Checked online and was able to get a transponder key from my local locksmiths - it only cost £30. It is now running perfectly (touchwood!!)
Hope this helps others out there.
Alison.
