The fan belt failed at 114,000 miles, which caused the timing belt to fail as well.
The camshaft failed a week after the car came back from the timing belt being redone.
Three weeks after the camshaft was replaced the master clutch cylinder failed and left the car immobile.
The Espace is, I feel, still the best full size M.P.V. on the road, in terms of comfort and drivability.
It has a very specious interior, and great if, like us, you have a large family.
Further to my rantings about the timing belt and clutch master cylinder, I have now got the car back. I had a local garage replace the clutch cylinder, it was cheaper than the main dealer, as the whole dashboard had 2 come out of the car.
The new part that was fitted was a revised part which has a resevoir bottle filled with fluid, and the part that was taken out did not have a bottle, yet on the service history, the system had been replaced in 2001. The garage that did the work feels that instead of replacing the whole part as charged 4, the main dealer only fitted a seal replacement kit to the master cylinder.
The dashboard was also missing quite a few of its retaining screws, when the garage went to refit the dashboard, so now the dash feels a lot tighter and does not rattle as much, which is good!
I have a 2001 Renault Espace and the clutch peddle had fluid leaking on the shaft. It looks like a seal has gone. I need to have the garage come to take it away, but I have had bad experiences with Renault dealerships and I was wondering if this can be fixed by a non Renault garage?
