1996 Renault Laguna RN review from UK and Ireland

Power steering pump went 1 month after buying the car, but was easy to fix with pump from a written off Laguna.

Water pump went with style at about 130,000 miles.

Had the cam belt changed at 140,000 miles by a Renault specialist for £220 all in. Renault wanted nearly £600 saying I needed a special kit for mine? Um yeah right.

Judders occasionally, but I think it is the distributor cap that needs changing. Mine has a single coil, not the 4 pack.

Extremely reliable and comfortable car. Loves the motorways; cruise's at 90mph and is near silent with a bit of road noise.

I fitted the leather interior purchased from eBay. I would never go back to cloth seats; the leathers are just too comfy. With 3 different electric adjustment controls, they can be moulded into any position.

I use my car everyday, and I do find it a bit thirsty round town, giving about 30mpg, but as soon as she's on the motorway, WOW. I had 49Mpg @ 85mph. 130 miles on a tenner's worth of juice, but this was when fuel was 87.9p/litre.

It has most of the modern refinements; electric windows, spacious interior and well laid out dash.

The RN model is bottom of the range. I did own an 2.0RT which had electric windows, sunroof and mirrors, but I found the sunroof made it a bit noisy, plus it broke during the winter; frosted up and snapped the runners.
