2001 Renault Laguna Sports tourer from UK and Ireland - Comments

"I consider I have been unlucky as the car has good looks, is comfortable and an excellent ride"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

From new, car would start intermittently.

Bad gear changing.

Car would die at low rev's.

General comments?

So far the car has been off the road for 15 weeks in first year.

I don't believe the dealer mechanics understand the technology to sort problems and repair.

Very poor back up and response from Renault. Until I employed a solicitor no one seemed interested.

Have replaced main computer (UCH). Starter Motor, Ignition System, new keys,

Navigation System and other parts involving computers.

I took deliver of a brand new Renault Laguna dci on 01 March 2002. It broke down on 02 March 2002 - and continued to break down 17 times more before I stopped using it.

I have just received my "independent engineers report" and it clearly states that Renault Technical Department are fully aware that a batch of Renault Laguna dci models were delivered with a major fault.

There has been no recall notice and Renault have kept this fact secret from the General Public. I think this information should be made known to the buying public - so they don't get stuck with a pile of junk, as in my case.

Needless to say, the dealer (Wilson's of Epsom), the HP company (RFS Limited) and Renault UK Limited are all "keeping house". So, my solicitor is proceeding to take them all to court to recover my money.

If you want to know the outcome of the court case, please let me know.

You are welcome to view any or all of my supporting evidence.

Best Regards

Hmmmm...some things never change. When they sold Renaults in my country (USA, and thankfully, they don't sell'em here anymore), quality control was AWFUL! The overall design and engineering was fine, but the horrid assembly and low quality of parts used sabotaged the vehicles. The name Renault is no longer taken seriously in the automotive world in North America, and that's not only unfair, but really too bad, but Renault has only itself to blame.

In response to the statement made by the person from USA I'd like to say that I find a little unfair the judgment of a automotive company by one bad experience specially when it comes to Renault. I'va owned a 1985 Renault-18 for 15 yrs. and it has been the most reliable car ever.

There's always been a tendency to badmouth Renault, Peugeot, and Fiat in North America and they are excellent cars. more stylish and better machines than the Awful Saturns, Dodges, Mercury or the terrible looking Buick.

I went to college in USA and they always had something to say about european cars (I had a Honda then... to stay neutral, jeje). as far as american cars, I think a very reliable car is Ford and they're usually very inexpensive, my first car in the US was an Escort GT and besides the oil change I didn't do anything else to that car (bought it with 80k/m and sold it w155k/m).
