Poor reception on FM Radio.
RENAULT LAGUNA SPORTS TOURER DYNAMIQUE 1.8 PETROL.
An excellent estate car with only a couple of small, but very annoying faults. The styling is great and the comfort from a driver prospective is very good. I travel up to 40K miles per annum and the Laguna is as comfortable as any car that I have driven. The 1.8 petrol is smooth, but under powered for a car of this size and I would recommend the 1.9 or 2.2 turbo diesels. Gear change is neat, but does not like to be hurried and the brakes are top class. The general handling and the ride are good on reasonable road surfaces.
The remote audio control on the steering wheel stalk is fiddly and not as easy to operate as some of the leading rivals such as Peugeot and Ford, but my main HATE is the radio.
As a spend many hours in the car each day, I enjoy listening to BBC Radio2 on FM, but the reception on the Laguna Radio is terrible. I have taken the car back to the dealer on several occasions, but the problem has not been fixed and I have now been advised by Renault Customer Service that this is a problem only on the Laguna Estate versions and only on the Radio2 FM waveband and only in certain areas. They have declined to have anything further to do with the matter: so if you listen to BBC Radio2 in your car, do not buy a Renault Laguna Estate.
This seems very typical of Renault "service" - or total lack of service. In general they really do not care about customers. those with genuine problems are ignored.
So I suggest that you don't buy a Renault at all. LOTS of other makes to choose from.
My sentiments entirely, they DO NOT give a stuff about their customers, i feel they are intent on infuriating folk.
My only wish now is that I kept the 10k in my pocket and spent it on a better built car other than a Renault.
My "FRENCH BEAN TIN SCENIC" is one pile of junk it has had fault after fault, in fact there's a suspicious rattle/ knocking to O/S suspension, and the clutch judders if you go from 2nd to 1st at slow speeds.
HATEFUL CAR... NEVER AGAIN.
Renault "Lasagne" = rubbish, I had one and the CD player kept overheating, the centre console flap snapped off, the foot rest snapped off and the drink holder jammed mid position! I now drive a new Nissan Primera estate. Really nice car, but Renault now own Nissan; this could be the first and last Nissan I ever own if Renault's abysmal build quality filters through to Nissan.
By the way, I gave up trying to get BBC Radio 2 in the end because it was nigh on impossible to get a decent reception. And did Renault get a design award for placing the stereo remote control right behind the wiper stalk so you couldn't see it? I think not!!!

I purchased a Laguna Expression Tourer in July 2002. From the day I took delivery the radio has been dreadful, so bad at times it was completely pointless trying to listen to anything. All FM stations are affected. The car has been back to the dealers on 19 occasions resulting in about 24 days loss of use. So far the car has clocked up nearly 800 miles taking it back-wards and for-wards to the garage for them to rectify the problem. They have not succeeded. The service I received from from the dealership staff was very poor and only improved slightly after writing to the Managing Director of the dealership group. Buy a Renault? - never again.
Can't understand all the uproar about the radio! I have a 52 reg Laguna Dynamique Sports Tourer 1.8 Auto. It has the boot fitted 6 disc changer made by alpine which fits nicely into a custom built recess in the boot. Radio reception is always excellent as is sound quality.
I have recently acquired a 51 plate Dynamique Sport Tourer, and radio reception on Radio 2 and Radio 4 is very poor, substantially worse than my previous older Laguna.
However that is the least of my concerns now, and after just 6 weeks I am intending to change the car due to numerous faults and dreadful after sales service. It is just not worth the hassle.

52 reg Laguna Dynamique Sports Tourer 1.9 DCi, nothing wrong with the radio at all, picks up all channels you could ever need, including Radio 2. The display I find very clear and easy to see, way better then my old A4. With Audi's when the sun comes out you can't see a thing, stupid Red LCD, and at night drives you crazy with devish red everywhere.
Since I purchased my brand new 1.9Dci in 2002, I have only 44,000mls on the clock to date. Less than 9,000mls per year! It is regularly serviced and well looked after. I have had cause to replace a brake calibre, brake disc, entire turbo unit & cat., rear axle bushes, ball joints, and now faced with the need to mend a slipping clutch, (something I've never had to do in 31yrs of driving experience of any other vehicle I've owned)! (If these had been the only problems/faults I've had with the car, they would have been bad enough, however, throw in the sticky front passenger electric window, faulty CD player, exhaust recycle valve, fault with turbo prior to it's replacement, fuel pipe recall, & faulty sun roof). I've found Renault UK Customer Services to be anything other than customer focused, trotting out the, "well your car is over 4 years old", and not too quick to back-up their assertion that Renault prides itself on building vehicles of "durability and technical excellence"! Considering my car was bought brand new, and fitted with first-line parts, Renault's claim, (on their website), of using genuine Renault parts to extend the longevity of their cars is laughable to say the least. Would I have another Renault? NO! (Not just because of the mechanical faults I've had with the car, but more to do with the lack of customer care/service which I have experienced. It took two days for a customer representative to call me back on one occasion --- well, I suppose they were busy dealing with complaints)!!!
I have just read all the comments on Laguna's, after recently buying a 2.0 litre, only to be totally disappointed regarding the comments made about the reception on the radio and would like to add that the problem comes from turning the stirring wheel... Annoying at best! The garage had looked at the problem only to tell me that it was fine and fobbed me off AGAIN!

I bought a Renault Laguna Dynamique Tourer with 50,000 on the clock.
2,000 miles later there was a rattle coming from the gear stick.
One week later there was a catastrophic bang as the the shaft came through the casing, costing over £1600 pounds to replace.
I have never had a car that has lasted only 2,000 miles.
Renault were no help, the warranty company were no help, and the car shop were we bought the car from were no help.
My first and last Renault.
Renault Laguna II Privilege ---YUK - Where do I start!!
Renault abysmal customer service starts with the monkeys in the service bay, and extends right back to the head office in Paris who called me following several complaints about the fact I have now spent £6,200 on repairs and replacements to my 2001 sports tourer. In essence they spoke about the problems and then said that they would do nothing, but wanted to know what the problems were!!! Why bother if you're not going to do anything about it!!!
New turbo, new intercooler, head gasket, new clutch and flywheel, new bushes, new rollbar, new front ball joints, new steering rack, new rear wiper motor, new rear wiper assembly, new door lock, new window winder for passenger and of course all at my cost.
I have found Renault dealerships absolutely rubbish at sorting problems, incredibly good at charging standard book rates at max time, and even better at washing their hands of problems.
Verdict.
I purchased 4 privileges for the company in 2001 and stupidly another 6 in 2003, but will never purchase a Renault again. If as I have heard they now own Nissan, then I guess Nissan are off the prospective purchase list now too!!
If I am ever in a position where I have a bottomless pit of money, don't need a reliable motor, and don't care about poor service, I will buy a Renault again.
Andy.
I recently bought a 52 Laguna estate 1.9dci.
Love the car, drives great, but it has the worst radio reception I have ever experienced (and I have owned some bad cars!!)
MW is totally non existent and FM is only good in certain areas.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
Has anyone come up with a solution?

Hi,
I recently purchased a Laguna 1.9 dci 2001. I love it, everything works great including great radio reception.
These cars have great comfort. OK they have their problems, but my friend just brought a brand new BMW costing around £60k. Now this has been in the garage more times than he has actually owned the car himself. Now this would really annoy me after spending 60k on a car, and it's more at the garage than at home.
Now a Laguna new would cost £10k approx, but you get the same great comfort, reliability, but it does not cost £60k, only £10k.
So it does not matter what you buy, you could end up having trouble.
Well I have a 51 plate Diesel Sport Tourer in Dynamique trim, and I really like it. I've had it 9 months now and it hasn't missed a beat, and I use it every day!
I'm a firm believer that you get good cars and bad cars that come off the same production line, but I also believe that a correctly maintained car will stand the test of time.
Renault's 18000 service intervals are strange as I change my oil and filters every 8-9000 and I feel this is a more realistic service period.
As for the radio, I have had no problems at all with mine and have even fitted an Alpine changer in the boot as per higher spec models.
My opinion is that sometimes people expect a "Champagne lifestyle on a Lemonade wage".
I've bought a Laguna Sport Tourer 1.9dCi over a month ago and fair enough, it has some common faults. I'm currently dealing with rear wiper motor and linkage, then I need to flush the cooling system and then take care of steering rack.
After reading all the comments I can suggest, buy yourself Haynes manual and start fixing your own car. Stop counting on your dealers as you're paying over the odds and most of you are quite happy to do it (Haynes manual costs £19.99 but saves you £££).
If you cannot fix it than go and pay someone to do it, simple as that.
