The air conditioning unit failed due to several leaks in and around the condenser.
The ventilation fan burnt out completely for no apparent reason.
A vibration (probably common in numerous cars) in the dashboard has started to occur.
The front offside wheel bearing? has been replaced which is almost double the price if you have ABS.
When the air con is in use, the power decrease is annoyingly noticeable. The car almost coughs and splutters.
The front windscreen mists up very quickly when raining and the only way to clear it, is to turn on the sceen heater, which automatically turns on the air con.
All faults which I have had rectified have been extremely expensive.
The ride is generally comfortable and acceleration is reasonable.
Seats are comfortable and there is plenty of passenger space as well as a good size boot.
For an "executive" model, it should have cruise control and an interior boot release, instead of a trip computer mainly full of useless information.
The boot lid is also quite heavy and cumbersome to lift.
Engine reliability (touch wood) has been excellent, however driven at the higher end,it uses an icredible amount of oil.
I have a Laguna Executive, I have noticed a puddle of water in the passenger front and rear foot well... Is this the same as what happed to you? Could it be related to the AC?
Your help on this would be very much appreciated.
I had the same problem in my 1997 Laguna, turns out that The Laguna rear door seals & rear door membrane can fail and this would account for the water. Renault are aware of this problem, but will still charge you a nice price to fix it! Also the water could be from a failed heater matrix which will also leak water into the front passenger footwell, I had this problem too! Renault gave me two options: option 1 have the job done by the book which was twice the price, or option 2 where they cut a small hatch from under the glovebox to access the matrix and replace it.
Both were fixed and I had no more problems until I wrote the car off when someone decided to do a U-turn in front of me on a dual carriageway from the opposite carriageway! I can vouch for the crash worthiness though, hit the other car at about 70 mph and although the laguna was bent & written off the passenger compartment was intact and there were no injuries (Apart from to the other drivers ears when my wife got out of the car!). We replaced the laguna with a 2.0 litre meganne coupe (great car) but we're about to sell it and get another Laguna (estate this time) as we now have two dogs to carry about! I love Renaults, I hate Renault main dealers! Find an independant garage you can trust and get any work done with them (If your car is out of warranty), I promise you will halve your costs. Even under warranty Renault will still try things like replacing one faulty shock absorber (I thought they should always be changed in pairs!), they tried it with me. Great cars, Rip off main dealers... Note:- sporty models even worse, parts cost twice as much!
I have a 2.0 16v RT sport, 1 previous owner, 49k miles with Full Renault service history on an R plate (1998)
Good points: Smooth, roomy inside, nice looking and nice to drive, you can get a lot of car for little money.
Bad points: Fuel pump, water pump, starter motor went within 2 weeks of each other. Not complaining as car is 6 1/2 years old. Went into dealer when airbag light came on to get fixed, 2 weeks later and it is back on again! Lots of electrical faults, dealers tend to be unhelpful.

Second Month Power failure while driving along the motorway. Took it to the dealer and paid £512 to fix it. Next day same problem took it back to the dealer who told me he had fixed it. Two days later same problem again. Now waiting for it to back in for the third time tomorrow.
