1995 Renault Laguna RT from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Good performance family car in need of a few build tweaks"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Broken water pump at 65000 miles.

Boot plip locking solenoid failed (still locks with key though)

Broken clock.

Catalytic converter failed at about 60000 miles (although garage who replaced exhaust at the time admitted it could have been due to their rough handling)

Radio tuning does not work properly and amp produces booming noise when radio is switched on (I was told by a Renault dealer that this happens on this make of car when rainwater gets into the ariel and travels into the car body where it eventually affects the radio!)

General comments?

A spacious family car. Really roomy and great if you need to transport large objects (I got a family of four in the car with a brand new washing machine crammed in the boot).

Thoroughly reliable mechanically with only the type of faults that you would expect on average with a car of this age.

Niggly electrical faults that I'm told by other Laguna owners I know are common this marque.

Nice touches in the cabin styling.

Best of all, not a flake of rust on this car as it reaches its ninth birthday. Other cars I've owned showed rusting after as little as five years of ownership.

Watch out for expensive dealership servicing though.

Contradiction in terms - I saw a recent motoring article that slammed the Laguna as one of the top ten worst buys yet I bought mine partly because the British School of Advanced Motoring adopted it as their official car a few years back due to reliability and ease of use.
