1998 Renault Laguna RT Sport review from UK and Ireland

Front brake disks are warped.

Air conditioning not working.

Slight juddering when engaging clutch in first gear.

I bought the car from a second hand car dealer (not allied to Renault) when it had done 47024 miles.

It soon became apparent that there was a fault with the brakes; a juddering felt through the steering wheel when braking fairly hard from around 60mph.

At the same time, it was noticed that there was a problem with the air conditioning system as there didn't seem to be any difference in the temperature when it was switched on.

A visit to the Renault garage confirmed that both front brake disks were warped and hence needed changing, along with the pads. This situation is due to the way it had been previously driven.

Examination of the air conditioning system displayed a lack of pressure and a damaged condenser unit (situated in front of the radiator). Susceptible to stone damage from underneath.

Aside from the above, no other faults have yet been noted.

Since acquiring the car, I have averaged 51mpg and experienced a very pleasant and comfortable ride. The ride quality of the car is excellent and the variable powered steering (meaning more power at very low speeds, such as reversing and turning etc) is fantastic.

The addition of the left foot rest is very useful and helps avoid ankle fatigue on long journeys.

The seats in the sport version are firm and comfortable with good body contouring both in the front and rear. Storage within the cabin is also very good; two cup holders in the glove box lid, CD storage and coin holder in within the centre arm rest, door pockets and a very useful sunglasses holder case above the driver's door.

The boot space is very generous allowing two good sized suitcases to lie side by side with plenty of height left for further storage.
