1997 Renault Laguna RN review from UK and Ireland
"Totally unreliable costly motoring!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
You better have a sit down before reading this post. Well I've only owned the car for 6 months, what possibly could go wrong??
Full exhaust system apart from CAT.
Small engine oil leak (ppossibly cam shaft oil seal).
Clutch cable replaced.
Changed alternator belt, due to squeaking.
Cam belt changed.
Rear brake shoes & leaky brake callipers changed.
Front drivers side door doesn't lock out, keeps swinging back on it's self when opened.
Faulty petrol gauge (wobbles), changed sender unit/petrol pump, made no difference.
Squeak when changing gear, sounds like front exhaust springs. Changed front down pipe exhaust gasket & springs, resolved prob.
Drivers side electric window stopped working, new motor & complete door mechanism fitted. What a nightmare! Prob fixed.
Intermittent starting prob, starts, then cuts out. Changed TDC sensor, cam sensor, still prob. Took it in for a diagnostic, fault still not found. Think possibly ECU or immobiliser fault. Total nightmare! Still ongoing prob, may have to scrap car?
Noise coming from offside front whist driving over 30mph. I give up!
General comments?
Good brakes.
Spacious boot.
Nice dash board lay out & easy to change CD player.
Under average headlight visibility.
Slightly disappointing bhp for a 1.8 (95bhp) engine.
Poor fuel economy, 32 mph.
Shocking reliability for an 8 year old low mileage 1 owner vehicle with FSH.
I'll never ever, ever buy another Reno, one of the worst cars I've ever owned. Not recommended!
