2004 Renault Megane 1.6V review from Ecuador
"Cheap rattle-box on wheels"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air conditioning failed at 5,000Km.
Disc brakes started squealing at 9,000Km. Discs were scratched and Renault refused to cover under warranty.
The whole body began to rattle and squeal at 2,000Km. By 9,000Km it felt like a five year car. The Renault dealer was never able to fix it.
General comments?
The car is spacious for its size and handles reasonably well. Boot is more than adequate and seats are comfortable.
Ride and handling are not bad. It seriously lacks power, though, even with the larger 1.6 liter petrol engine.
Quality is awful. It looks and feels cheap. Plastics are bad quality and workmanship is poor.
It's unacceptable to start having rattles and squeaks so early with a brand new car.
Renault dealership is rubbish. They claimed that the rattles and noises were normal, in order to avoid having to work on it under warranty. I'll never buy another Renault product again.
