2001 Renault Megane review from UK and Ireland
"Lovely, comfortable and stylish, but unreliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The electrics in terms of the boot lock broke, and as a result, the boot won't lock.
I have had major problems with starting the car; have taken it to mechanics on several occasions - no resolution, but am charged anyway for their time. Understandable, but costly!
My front window wipers have failed twice; this time last year and again this week. Both times I have been driving to work in heavy rain, and this has proved dangerous!
General comments?
The car looks lovely and handles well when driving.
Having read reviews and the Glass's Guide, as well as my own experience, it seems that Renault have major problems with electrics, and this is proving to be dangerous and inconvenient, not to mention costly to the consumer.
When my Renault Megane coupe is good, it is very good, but when it is bad, it is a complete nightmare! I have been reduced to tears on more than one occasion! It is pot luck as to whether the car will start, and that is always at the back of my mind. I have commitments and a small child, and have been let down so many times! I am now in a position where I am most likely going to have to sell my car in order to get something that I know will get me from A to B without drama.
As I said, a beautiful car, but honestly not worth the hassle!
