I can't believe the number of problems I've had with a car only 4 years old!
Firstly there was a front window recall problem in 2005.
My window had coincidentally just started having problems!
The off side door trim fell off somewhere on a road- that had to be reordered & then resprayed!
Then I was locked out of the car after I had put my handbag with keys in it on the back seat! This resulted in a tow back to a garage & then a new Key code cut- too long a scenario to go in to details, suffice to say it cost me £117!
Next the car wouldn't lock from the front doors.
After that it just seemed to get worse! There was an urgent safety recall in 2006 re a brake pedal safety system although I have to say I wasn't aware of this particular problem!
Then in Jan 2007, it failed its 1st MOT!! on 1. Both brakes were binding.
2. Offside windscreen wipers not cleaning efficiently & one blade deteriorated.
In 2007 I had very similar gearbox problems to other reviewers which resulted in the car needing a new modulating valve to regulate the pressure in the gearbox. At least this seemed to stop the really jerky gear changes but resulted in a £460 bill from Renault!
Now in May 2008, I have found the key doesn't always lock; sometimes it won't open immediately which probably means the battery needs changing in the key card (AGAIN) and now my daughter has noticed additional faults
whereby the gear handbrake fault sign pops up and it doesn't always start obediantly !
Although I love driving this car as the seating is higher, there is good all round vision & the power steering is a dream. I actually really enjoy driving this car, but it has developed so many faults in the short time I've had it, I'm afraid it's going to have to go before I have to shell out for another huge bill!
I completely agree. Mine is a Renault Megane VV Privilege and it had all the mod cons inside. I cannot begin to count the number of electrical faults. ALL the electrical windows have gone, resulting in me just taking the motor out of rear windows (£400 a go for new motor). The key won't open the door - i.e. I've spent hours trying to wait for the remote to lock and open the doors. TWO plugs have gone inside the engine. Last week, all the dashboard lights / heating / lighter plug went (therefore no sat nav) and I was on an important journey to Birmingham. It was 3 years old when I bought it, and I know the dealer well and trust him. I've had it for two years and I've had enough. It's going tomorrow.
