2007 Renault Megane Dynamique review from UK and Ireland
"A fast, economical, comfortable, superb, well bred machine"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The car is a Motability car. I have had it since new, and to be perfectly honest the car has not faulted me in any way!
The only comment I can make that is starting to annoy me about the car is the front brakes are getting a bit squeaky after 14000 miles.
Otherwise nothing.
General comments?
The Megane is absolutely a fantastic car. I can honestly say it is the best car I have driven. (I work for a railway company, and have hired - other the past 6 months - many cars... Astras, Golfs, Seeds, Focus, Fiesta, 207s... all 07/57/08 plates. The 207 was a fantastic car, but the Megane is still at the top of my list.
While working for the company, I have used my car for work purposes (shouldn't of, but never-mind) and I have done many motorway miles (ranging from very quick to very economic - depending how I felt)
Being a younger person, I have of course given it a good run around (country lanes etc) it handles superbly! Sticks to the road like glue, (I mean this even at high speeds) it excels past what you may think the limit is for taking a corner at speed).
The car has taking me to Devon on 1 tank, and this is from the North East... Including driving at 120+ at some stages (as I said, I am a younger driver and of course wanted to try the top speeds..)
A full tank at todays price is around £60-65 (was £45 when I first had the car)
The handling as I said is fantastic, the response from when you put your foot down upon the pedal to when the power is delivered is instantaneous. It has fast response in all gears.
I was a bit dubious of the shape when I first drove it around, but I quickly realised it looks fantastic! A cut above the rest.
Now with high speeds you need good brakes; I believe the Meganes brakes are some of the best I have used. They will stop (without skidding) from 70 - 0 in less than seconds... not an exaggeration. (Tried and tested on an ex-airfield)
The space inside is substantial for most families, let alone a single person. The boot is more than adequate for a refrigerator salesman... let alone a family of 4/5 (yes that is an exaggeration, but it is unbelievably big due to the unique "bum" it has.
Saying this, the bum actually indents into the boot in the middle under the wiper, therefore restricting some space...
The headrests also could do with a design change, as they are about as maneuverable as as the moon...
The stereo also struggles to pick some stations up that other cars can...
The console is very effective and simple... offering lots of options to optimise the feeling of the interior. The key card is also a superb addition to the car, optimising the use of a push start/stop button.
All in all this is a quality product and I would recommend it to all...
Thanks for reading.
I hope you enjoy your Megane as much as me.
