1998 Renault Megane Coupe review from UK and Ireland

Squeaking fan belt (turned out to be dirt in the tensioners on the alternator, which was diagnosed by a 3rd party garage and completely missed by the Renault garage)

Remote Key fob broke - I was only supplied with one and therefore had to get the car recovered to the garage to get the disarming code for the immobiliser (new key £120 (but if you moan like I did, I got it for £85) ) Don't make the same mistake I did, make sure you get 2 keys with yours.

In late 2001 I was involved in a accident where a third party car crashed T-boned by car at 60mph into the passenger door. Full marks to Renault the car looked awful, but I was protected very well, it would have been a lot worse if I was in my old car Peugeot 106.

Brilliant Car! I had the 2.0 8v version of the Megane Coupe. I purchased the car in Dec 2000. I loved it.

The dealer wasn't very good thou, I picked up on several little things on the car when I went to look at it, I listed a few little items that I wanted sorting as part of the sale (little scratches and interior marks) but when I went to pick the car up none had been done, after arguing they did this for me.

The car itself was a great car, being the 2.0 8v it was only a Group 9 insurance being a 20 year old with a Coupe isn't good for insurance, but this car was very reasonable.

I made a few modifications to the car i.e. induction kit and changed the horrid 14" alloys to 17".

Overall very very happy with car.
