1998 Renault Megane Coupe from UK and Ireland - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Leaky sun roof.

Finance package.

General comments?

In April 1998 I purchased a Renault Megane Coupe using finance from RFS, (Renault Financial Services). Since then although I love driving the car and except for a leaky sunroof have no complaints, I have had no satisfaction from RFS. And now find my self facing financial disaster because of it.

In brief the catalogue of errors which have brought about this situation include:

RFS cancelled the direct debit order for payments without informing me.

Several payments were missed due to this and as I was working away I did not notice the problem. However RFS did not contact me to tell me that they were not recieving payments.

I informed RFS in DEcember of 1998 that they had not taken the payments from my account. Up to this point they were not aware of the situation.

I settled the amount not taken from my account after some discussion with the management of RFS but recieved no reason for the cause of the problem and was accused of cancelling the direct debit and in general lied to and fobbed off.

I found that once I had informed RFS that they had not recieved the payments that they put me on to a bad credit list. Something they denied. Once I had proved that I was on this list they told me in February of this year that they would remove my details from it. I found out three weeks ago that they had not. I informed them and they promised me that they would that very day remove my details. I found out yesterday that they had not done so. As a result I have lost funds that were to be made available to me. If I can get no satisfaction in this by tomorrow AM I could loose my home and my business. The situation is so critical. At this point I would not be able to pay for the car anyway. All through a false blight on my credit record. All of which would no doubt come out in the ensuing court case for non payment.

I strongly advise no one to use RFS for the financing of what is a good car dealers goods.

RFS have financed 3 of my cars now... each time they could not be more helpful and friendly. They genuinely treat me as if I am important to them. They almost seem to pre-empt my needs and smooth the way to my new car... the only contact I then have or need, is the occasional call to check I am still happy!!

Why do people jump to the defence of service providers after someone else has listed their complaints. If you have had good service does this excuse the bad service others have had?

Well I had a similar situation with RFS - I.e. they missed a month's car payment a few years ago. However, I have to say that I check my finances every month and immediately noticed I had more money than I should and checked it out. If you were working away at the time then that's unfortunate.

However, I had the exact opposite outcome to you - RFS admitted it was their fault and said they would bear the responsibility for the missed month's payment and so I was more than happy.

I'm sorry you've had such lousy service but I'm afraid I can't agree with you recommending no-one use them to finance their purchases as I've only ever found them very competitive and they have also respected my request to not receive follow up calls unless I phone them.

I'm sorry, but if by tomorrow AM I was going to lose my house and my business, the last thing I would be doing would be filling in a car review. Well would you?
