The past couple of months, the car just does not always want to start. No apparent reason! I can be out in the car all day, traveling miles. However. I go out to start the car and it just not want to! It just does not want to start. I have tried everything
damp start etc., new battery, through clean of everything possible. Cannot find fault. Then all of a sudden it starts! Does anyone have any idea's please to remedy this fault?
The car handles well.
Nice looking.
Relatively cheap to run.
Could possible be the immobilizer is faulty, if the red light on the dashboard is flashing when you try to start it, your remote plip is not accepting the code.try new batteries in the plip first. or take it to a Renault dealer and get them to re-code.
Re my previous comments about my Megane being very temperamental. Thanks for the advice about the key - We had a spare key and it still didn't always want to start. I have now been told it could be the magnetic strip in the engine, or TDT (?) sensor? Has anyone else experienced either of the above. As I am a lady driver with little knowledge, I don't want to get ripped off. Also, I travel a lot of miles on my own and I am getting more and more concerned about the non reliabilty of my car.
Any help would be much appreciated
thank you.
I have a 1.4l Renault Megane which has given me the same intermittent starting problems as described above. The problem just seems to have disappeared. I mentioned it to a Renault dealer, and asked if it might be the battery in the key-fob that could be the cause of the problem. He said the battery was only for the central locking transmitter (in the key-fob). The immobilizer sensor in the car is like the sensor in department stores exit, which responds to the presence of an article being stolen (as it still has the security tag attached). The 'tag' in this case is in the key fob. The problem, I suspect, is with the sensor, not the 'tag'.
Megane is a good goer, but I wish the blue 'full beam' lights indicator was not hidden in a corner of the display.

I have a Renault Megan Elize, V reg, 1.6 auto.
It also cuts out without warning, sometimes on turning right, others, just when you slow down in traffic. The fog light indicator also flashes at times when the brake is depressed.
Starting has also become difficult, as it turns but has trouble catching, and it's not the plugs or battery, and the car is serviced regularly. A friend suggested that I start the car in Neutral, as opposed to Park, on some occassions that works. Though someone else had problems with starting due to a sensor in the gearbox. Any information would be helpful as you end up constantly checking the revs as you slow down for signs of it cutting out in heavy traffic.
