"Great value for money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

So far nothing has gone wrong with the car.

General comments?

My car is a Megane CFA 1.6 16V gray eclipse (B66) sedan with cruise control.

I was confused at first between the SKODA OCTAVIA A4 and the RENAULT Megane, but the guys at RENAULT really convinced me to by the Megane, besides why not cuddle yourself with the superb shape and the luxury inside.

The electrically assisted power steering is awesome especially in Egypt with very tight parking places it is really great.

The brakes are really very sensitive and powerful too, but I guess I will have to change the brake pads more frequent.

The boot is very roomy 520 litre without folding the rear seat.

The car is very stable on high speed and with the cruise control on, driving is a breeze.

At the beginning I was worried about too many sensors and electronics on the car especially the Renault card, but so far not a single fault.

The car is 115 hp which is adequate to my needs especially in crowded streets like Egypt nevertheless with the tiptronic transmission you can change to Manual transmission and get all the power you need.

Fuel consumption is perfect (7.5L/100KM) on high ways and (9.5L/100KM) city driving.

One problem is that the car is really wide and you won`t notice unless you drive it so you have to really watch it in narrow streets and tight parking places (I guess that`s why they provide electrically folded side mirrors).

Here I`m again after adding 5000 KM to my car and what`s new is I got used to the car dimensions and now I`m really enjoying driving daily you feel so relaxed when you drive a Megane.

I felt that the car is always taking the left direction when you leave the steering wheel from your hands and also some vibration in the steering wheel when reaching 90-100 km.

I went to the agent and he did wheel balancing for the front wheels, but with no success, so I went to a specialized workshop and I did wheel balance for the four wheels and to my surprise the four wheels were completely unbalanced (wheels are on the cheap side although they are Bridgestone).

Now the car is great both at low and high speeds, stability is very good without the slightest vibration.

Now the car has 5000 km on the odometer one thing that happened is a clinging sound on full steering left and right.

I know that this is a well known defect with all Megane`s and you have to visit the service center to retorque a special bolt on the steering column. and I did so and the sound disappears, so I advice all Megane owners to check this clinging sound on full steering especially while parking and visit the service centers to avoid more serious problems on the future.

Hello.

I'm thinking of buying a 2007 Megane in Egypt. Could you please shed more light on the current condition of your car and its mileage?

I'm quite curious about the prices of the spare part that are changed frequently such as the brake pads and filters. I'm sure you know there are a lot of rumors about this car in the Egyptian market and I'd love to hear from an owner to know more.

Could you please let me know if you drive at high speeds (above 160 Km/H) and how stable is the car at such speeds as well?

Thanks a lot!

I was amaze with the interior of the car. I had a test drive of 1.6 . I find it smooth when driving, but I did not test it in high speed above 100 km/hr 'cause the salesman and me were having a chat all the time.

I'd like to hear more reviews from owners. I planning to buy. The dealer offer me a demo-car to get more discount. I am reluctant to buy 'cause I hear a lot of negative comments. Is it a reliable car?

I have a 2005 model 1.6 auto I have 40,000 km on the clock

thanks God the car still OK nothing wrong

only changed the front brake pads cost : 350 LE

concerning speed I've gone 190 kmh without anybody in the car noticing the car was eager to go even more, but the road got busy

the main problem in those older models is the gearbox it's jerky utterly stupid changing to much lower gears on heavy braking gettin the car to rev quite high...software problems, but you can fix it for free at the dealership

steptronic is OK 1st : 50 2nd : 90 3rd : 140 4th : someone told me he got 210 but didn't try myself YET!!

BTW brakes very good, but annoy passengers as they're kinda brutal heavy and sudden..

About reliability I don't really know for sure I mean 40,000 kms isn't quite much in 3 yrs

the car is smooth, quiet and very very stylish

also safe check encap results for more info which is an issue here in Egypt.

Dear all.

Sorry about the delay in answering, but I have been pretty busy lately.

Concerning my Meg. I now have 15000 km on the clock, not much to judge, but I can comment on many things though.

The car is extremely stable with minimal body leaning at curves; no comparison with the Korean or Japenese cars.

The suspension system is great with minimal street vibrations reaching the car. The accessories are amazing and the car is very stylish.

Concerning the problems I had; a squealing noise from the brake pads (a well known problem) and they replaced it with a better quality one under warranty, reminding me to say that the dealer is one of the best.

The service interval is every 10000 km ranging from 470 L.E. to a max of 2500 L. E for the 60000 km.

Well guys I intend to get a used Megan in Egypt, a friend has 2005 model and due to his long distance driving the car has made 120000 KM, but it is in good condition and every thing seems fine.

Does anyone know of any problems faced specially after 100000KM and what are spare parts costs?

Why is the car loosing value on the Egyptian market?

It is a fancy car after all!

Has anyone experienced any problems with the sensors, and was the dealer able to fix them?

Please let me know,

I have the the 2006 renault megane sedan. I've done about 50,000 kilometers and the car is starting to show its true colours. the brake pads keep squeaking when used; the gearbox is faulty; when I'm driving, it shifts down to a lower gear when accelerating. I'm a bit disappointed in Renault's efforts.

Well, I got a used Megane; not the one with 120,000KM, but another one with only 78,000KM. For a 2005 model, it is not bad.

What I have experienced so far is that the brakes are sharp, and they tend to make the passenger irritated. I have a driver, so I usually feel that they are strong and they take time in getting used to them. As for the gearbox: no problems, it kicks-down when required and if you are in a sport mode, the car actually responds. It will always step-down at high RPM to give you the power required. If you should need to accelerate quickly, I found this really cool. I think it is the best used car for its value on the market and would recommended it to anyone who does not like to buy new cars (like myself). So far, all is well; it is good on fuel consumption, and displays a lot of information from the onboard computer. I am pleased with it.

Dear guys.

Now I have 21K on the odometer, the battery was drained at exactly 20K (2 years period) to my surprise the dealer changed it under warranty!!.good job RENAULT, so far I am pleased with my car, I did the 20K service and the car is in mint condition.

I know some faults will evantually appear, but with the money I paid (125000) I cannot find any car in the Egyptian market with the same style, luxury, ease of driving with the same money I paid.

Hi, guys.

I have Toyota Corolla 1.3 2007, but I want to change it because of its very poor stability. Do you advice me to change it to a Megane 2008?

Well,

Driving a Megane is a totally different experience, from the first trial you will feel the luxury and safety of this car.

Stability is awesome on this car, the motor is nippy and ofcourse you will feel it as you are switching from 1.3 to 1.6 litres 115 HP.

BUT... you will miss the trouble free of the corolla, as the Meganes has some electrical faults that you might have them all or none, so depends on your luck, if you are from Egypt, the dealer will sort it all as you have 3 years warranty, to my knowledge the 2008 model has been refined and most of the faults were sorted out, I definitely recommend the Megane if you are the kind of driver that takes care of the small details.

Hi Guys.

I'm new to this place but I'm really happy to find it.

I have a 2006 Megane. I bought it 6 months ago and it was ZERO at that time. I've made 15,000km till now. The car is full of options and luxury, but still I'm facing some problems such brakes, shifting and this is my main problem, the gearbox between 1 and 2 makes a very strange sound as if the engine is broken, does anyone know what what I'm talking about?!!!

One more thing is the sounds coming from the body of the car while I'm experiencing small bump are not quiet; feels I'm driving a Chinese car :(

Hi.

I have a Lanos 2004 and I want to buy a Megane 2008/2009. Is my decision good?

I have one question; what is the difference between an Octavia, and A4 and a Megane sedan 1.6?
