2003 Renault Megane ex review from Malta
"Comfortable, safe and economical"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
From the first day I owned the care there was fault with the parcel shelf, but the dealer replaced it under warranty. from that time the new parcel, shelf remained good.
After a 1 year and 2 months one day the could not be start the service light comes on. strange with the ignition off and the car completely dead it began to do lots of cluttering, noise from the doors something electronic. when the M.E.T man arrived, he gave a jump start to the battery, and the car started as normal. He told me that the battery, when completly dead it needed to be replaced. after I went to Renault Malta because the car is still under warranty. Renault told me that there is nothing wrong with the battery when you bring it for service we will check it again.
Rattles from all the doors. Does anyone notice some Rattles from the doors?
Noisy brakes.
One thing I can't stand is the passenger seat beltwhen there is no one in the front passenger seat the seat belt swings and makes lots of cluttering noise.
I replaced the factory cd radio for an alpine because of its poor quality. I'm also going to change the four speakers. The speakers are so poor when you open the base they seem that are going to blow. Even with the factory stereo it also had a poor sound quality. It's a shame for a car like this that it has a so much poor audio system.
After a year I am finding the suspension a bit hard not soft as Renault says. Its very stable and it handles well, but potholes makes them self's felt into the cabin.
And you need a firm hand on the steering wheel.
The diesel engine is smooth and refined and its free of vibrations, but it could be more smooth like the Hdi engine.
General comments?
This is my second review of this car. I still like the way it looks and I still enjoy driving it.
I had some problems with it, but its not that unreliable. The most problem where I live (Malta) are the poor roads and its normal that the car begins to rattle. I had a skoda fabia before it was one of the best quitest cars and after months pass it begans to rattle the whole car.
But at least the Megane feels stable and the ride is comfortable. The handling is also good.
