Dashboard lights failed and came back on with alarming regularity.
Very disappointed with this car which I had supplied for a month as a body shop courtesy car.
The engine is absolutely gutless. Very poor levels of power. Fuel consumption poor.
Couldn't get comfortable in the seats.
Rear visibility is very poor.
Good stereo system and light steering.
On the whole, not a very good car, slow, thirsty, and poor to drive.
The diesel versions are much much better. Cars in this class are now too heavy to be pulled along by 1.6 petrol engines, and Renault's dCi engines are beautifully smooth and quiet.
Sadly, the build quality on my dCi saw the car literally falling apart by 20,000 miles. It was a nice car when new, but built out of monkey metal and cheese, by slapdash workers who clearly couldn't care less. I have never owned a car that was so appallingly put together, and which used such cheap and nasty components.
I sold mine on, and haven't looked back.
I agree with the above comments re the diesel engines.
A colleague has an 04plate Megane diesel which is very smooth and his has stood up to some hard work from his family.
Yes The Latest Megane is a Disapointment especialy Ride and Handling. I have the 1.5cdi engine performance is not a problem for me its very quick, gear box could be smoother, and The suspension is very hard and fidgits over poor roads and sends vibrations to the cabin, bumps fell themselves badly into the steering and the steering knocks over bumps, Rattles from dash board and more rattles from cabin. Fortunatly I did not experienced any electrical problems yet and the car always starts. The only problems I have are wear and tear because of poor roads where I live and squeeking brakes. But I am disappointed by the megane Ride and handling because I did not expect this from a French car when once French cars and the Renault 19 wich the Megane was based on where famed for The Superb Ride and handling Balance and soft ride. But now what Happend? why French Cars have hard suspension? and Figits over poor roads becouse of to stiff Suspension? and the megane doesn't Roll becouse its to stiff!

Late 2006 Megane Dynamique Sport Hatch 1.6 petrol 3 door. Purchased as pre reg for 9K.
Had a Megane CC 1.6 2005 before which was way underpowered. Newer engine is livelier, but has 4 bhp less. Body is 130kg less. Handling is tight and ride is firm (but it's meant to be). Steering is responsive. No issues on electrics, body trim, or mechanicals.
Yes, it may be a bit bland in the interior, but body shape is one to like or loath.
Also have a 14 year old 160bhp 1.6 Honda Del Sol, but for long journeys and holidays it's the Megane.
I do not agree about the fuel consumption, it´s very low in my 1.6 engine, the engine runs very smooth and is really alert. The car is very good for the price, it feels, almost, like a luxury car. I have a full equipped 4 door sedan model from April 2006. // Roger, Sweden.
The megan 1.6 2007. is very stable in the road more than any other of it's class. Safety devices are very nice in all ways, But I face a quick failure of the hand brake after 2000 KM of usage. In general Megan is fine and compared to the same class it is the best.
