2004 Renault Modus Expression review from UK and Ireland

Fuel tank leaked.

Left hand light switch cluster failed.

Sunroof failed.

Air-con failed.

Fan blower control failed three times.

Rear door child lock stuck in locked position.

Rear brake pad cracked, squeaking noises.

NS headlamp failed 3 times - front off car repair.

NS headlamp intermittent failure.

I bought this car because of its fuel economy, which proved to be very good, 60mpg average, 55mpg worst in Winter, best ever, 81mpg on a 120 mile run, fully laden, with a tail wind. I like Renaults, I always wanted an Espace, but Modus was the compromise!

The Modus really has extremely comfortable seats, and a really nice finish. I liked the look of it, but I was in the minority. It handled beautifully, and the engine was very sweet.

Eventually it had to go because of all the ancillary bits of equipment which kept failing. Each line above is a day when a workshop visit had to be organised. When the blower switch failed the day after dealer repair, my confidence finally evaporated. How can blower switches fail? This technology has been with us since the 1870s. With the dysfunctional headlamps, air-con and sunroof, it was unfortunately the final straw. The front-off nonsense required to replace a headlamp bulb isn't funny and took the shine off too.

I still like Renaults though.
