September 2009.
The glass roof on our Renault Modus exploded without warning and with no visible chips or cracks a few nights ago. Luckily our 6 year old daughter wasn't in the car at the time, but my wife was considerably shaken up by the experience.
I'm interested to hear the report from the person who dealt with Renault Enfield, as this is where we bought our car and where we have sent the car to be repaired. They did indeed give us the 'it must have been a flying stone' rubbish and we now have to seriously consider changing the car rather than drive around with a time bomb above our head.
No more glass roofs for us. Judging by the experiences on this site alone, it is obviously a serious design flaw.
Our Renault Megane was parked outside of our house last night. I was still awake when I heard a massive bang and the alarm started sounding. I looked out of the window, no one about, no cars had passed and saw there was no sunroof left. I called the Police immediately, but there was no one in sight. Renault are saying it seems an odd allegation that the sunroof exploded on its own - implying we made the whole thing up. They state either way that the warranty on the car does not cover, replacing the sunroof!
This is ridiculous... has anyone had their issues resolved by Renault yet...we're forking out £560 to replace it. I feel a story to Watchdog coming on :-(
This is a well documented safety issue and VOSA should be notified to bring about a recall.
Explain this to Renault, plus the fact the car was parked at the time - this should be a priority fix for a manufacturer who sells on safety.
