1999 Renault Scenic Alize review from UK and Ireland
"Perfect solution for a growing family"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Windscreen wipers with a mind of their own. Would self-park in the middle of the screen.
Cam belt snapped within 100 miles of the service interval for change.
General comments?
I replaced my pride and joy - an MG F - to purchase this car, when we had our first baby. My choice was based on the 'lifestyle' presentation of the scenic.
On the whole, it's been a terrific car to own and run. It has lived up to all the expectations I had for an MPV.
Performance is a bit poor, once you fill it up with luggage, but it's only an 8-valve engine, so I don't really expect much else.
Our local dealer has been fine. They didn't offer any discount for the snapped cam belt, but the car was 4 years old, so that's fair enough.
General storage and load carrying is great, especially when you remove all rear seats.
I've been impressed enough to just order a new scenic 1.5 dCi 100, though the delivery time is bordering on unacceptable.
