You can't help loving this car. I bought this to compare it with my old Maybach. You might have read my SLR review.
The ride is definitely better than the Maybach.
Performance is pretty good for a 6,000 lb car.
Luxury is great, but the Maybach beats the Rolls Royce in this department by far.
All in all it doesn't beat my Maybach, but that's just my opinion.
Fuel economy is... well I won't say anything about that this time!
Nice car, but I wouldn't buy another one.
Whether the review is true or not, the fact is that this Rolls really missed the mark. Rolls Royces, for all their snob appeal, at least had very approachable and often beautiful designs.
This new monstrosity looks like it was designed for a plutocrat sitting in the back to tell his chauffeur "ramming speed" when approaching workers striking at his company.
Disagree with my assessment, but sales of both the Phantom and the "I have lots of money, but no taste" Maybach are doing very poorly worldwide.
Bentley got it right, even if the newer models utilize a lot of VW components.

Have you seen one in the "metal"? The reason I ask is that I felt EXACTLY the same way. I then saw one at a hotel. For some reason, the photos do not do this car justice. Trust me, it is no Phantom V or Phantom VI, but it's not as ugly as the pictures. Maybe it's the angles.
Jeff.
You are missing the point. The Maybach is an ultimate car. So is the RR Phantom.
Seen this car in person many times and my comment still stands - it is NOT a Rolls Royce as far as what the company's designs used to be.
Yes, it is very elegant inside (unlike the Maybach), but I can't get past the outside. And the new convertible looks to be even uglier. The worst part is Rolls traditionally keeps designs for a very, very long time. Hopefully the marketplace's dislike for this shape (as evidenced by sales) will force them to change it.
I can't say if I love Phantoms or not. But there is one custom-made phantom (well, kind of) with which I have fallen in love. It's the 'Viant SLV 365'.

Do that before the link changes.
I purchased my Rolls Royce phantom in July of 2004. It is the best vehicle I have ever purchased. My son’s chrysler 300c is very similar though, and it is cheaper
The Mabach is a very nice car, but I like the exterior look of the Rolls Royce, the flying lady catches my eye.

P.S. Do people stare at you when you pass by them in your Rolls Royce?
