1994 Rover - Austin 200 Coupe review from UK and Ireland
"Absolute love wagon!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch cable mounting bracket snapped - pretty minor (sub £100) fault but the main dealer took it upon themselves to replace half the drive chain at a cost of £1200 (and only that cheap because I got the gear box repaired when they said it was irreparable and tried to sell me a new one!)
A little oil leak from the sump, nothing major.
Drive shaft needed replacing.
Little air leak causing rough running.
Had two wheel-speed sensors break now, causing the ABS to fail.
General comments?
Excellent car, explosively fast - beats almost anything on the road. Pretty reliable, but the Rover main dealer I used for the early work are absolute criminals (or totally incompetent, not sure which) and should be avoided like the plague.
Rover's "old man" image is a bit of a shame, but I'd rather have that than "boy racer". It leaves boy racers for dust anyway, even if they have the FULL body kit on their Nova! ;-)
