Clutch cable mounting bracket snapped - pretty minor (sub £100) fault but the main dealer took it upon themselves to replace half the drive chain at a cost of £1200 (and only that cheap because I got the gear box repaired when they said it was irreparable and tried to sell me a new one!)
A little oil leak from the sump, nothing major.
Drive shaft needed replacing.
Little air leak causing rough running.
Had two wheel-speed sensors break now, causing the ABS to fail.
Excellent car, explosively fast - beats almost anything on the road. Pretty reliable, but the Rover main dealer I used for the early work are absolute criminals (or totally incompetent, not sure which) and should be avoided like the plague.
Rover's "old man" image is a bit of a shame, but I'd rather have that than "boy racer". It leaves boy racers for dust anyway, even if they have the FULL body kit on their Nova! ;-)
Too right - these cars are beasts and are pretty tough given that they are turbo-charged sports cars driven hard. I've got a vitesse with the same engine and I love it! People don't laugh at the image so loud when you leave them eating dust...
Would you believe my clutch cable bracket broke too?
My 1994 220 GTI turbo (3 door hatch not coupe) has been just grand for the three I have owned it.
It's fitted with a K&N air filter and the cat has been cut out of it. No emission laws out here in NZ!
In a sea of over dramatic looking and sounding cars it's kind of nice to have something subtle, and still go like stink! Which it does.. fair play.
Slithering about in the wet has it's problems though, especially when you finally do get some grip and it heads off at a tangent to the road.
All in all.. a super-car without the price tag.
Did this finally get past the spelling police?
