1999 Rover - Austin 200 BRM LE from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A real quicksticks!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Front tyres well worn, and replaced with Bridgestone Potenzas.

On third throttle body - possibly too many trips to the red zone... - as a result - odd higher idling speed.

General comments?

At first the orange 'smiler' at the front was interesting. Then it became annoying - following bad reactions from friends etc. Subsequently sprayed it green, and now it looks better (in my opinion).

Very good handling; the lowered suspension, 16 inch wheels and limited slip differential help in those moments where understeer should be experienced.

Very nice inside environment with leather trim sports seats, alloy gear knob, red steering wheel and everything else in the cabin.

7000 rpm red-line very addictive! But not good for oil consumption.

Fuel economy OK, if you keep out of the higher torque zones!

A nice looking, fast, original - 700 made in this country, good car. That is a joy to own and drive, always receiving good comments from friends.

Maybe in the future add a supercharger or throttle bodies for a little more 'kick'.

Original stereo - absolute ratner, replaced with a nice Alpine unit with decent speakers in the back also. Volume control switch still functional on the steering wheel.

I love this car!!!

Only a couple of bad comments here. Why the blue angry face? it should be a smiling face!! A top car.

steven@carsurvey.org:

The blue sad face is because the reviewer answered no to the question "Would you buy another car from this manufacturer?".

Best Wishes,

Steven.

I have an 400 si, how did you get to keep the radio controls working on the steering wheel, I have replaced the original radio with a pioneer but I've had to refit my remote to the wheel.

I've sprayed my grille silver, it looks well smart. I am having my BRM superchipped, this will ad 12 bhp, can't wait. Allready got stainless exhaust and induction kit, sounds great. Only problem I've had is it dosent like starting in damp conditions.

We have owned a BRM from new and it is now part of the family, call me an old traditionalist, there is only one colour nose to have and it's orange.

We still think it is a better package than the new MG's and it has been reliable with only a wheel bearing and blown radiator fan fuse on the hottest day of the year whilst stuck in a traffic jam (luckily no damage done as we caught it in time).

A fun car that stands out in the crowd.

The Orange Grille is what makes the BRM stand out from other rovers in which you would normally see 2 content pensioners taking a Sunday trip to the seaside!!! Next you'll be telling us you ripped out the red leather interior because it was a little too loud, these things accompanied with the whole car as a package are what made it what it is - a car designed to stand out!!
