"Good cheapish all rounder, to get you from A to B, FAST!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing! Should hope not, I've only had it a month!

General comments?

Good all rounder, especially fuel consumption for the amount of miles I do in it and considering it's a performance car.

1.8 VVC engine, K-series engines rock! 0-60mph in around 7.5 seconds, though I've not timed it, yet!

Handles better with 17" wheels on it and will be even better when I get it lowered and add uprated shocks.

Very nice interior, Rover was starting to get things right with this car. Electric everything! NOTE: You must look after the bodywork. Though it's OK when you give it some TLC, don't let it put you off.

Can hear a slight tapping from the engine when warm, don't know whether it's the tappets, if it has them or whether it's the VVC side of things working away. Anybody know?

Don't worry about the tapping. It is more than likely the injectors. The injectors are ment to make this noise. If it is not this it will be the hydraulic tappits which occansionally can be a little noisy. Nothing serious though.

Ive got the same problem on my car, but they tap when you put your foot down when in motion. I've been told its the Tap-pits and that you could drive for miles and not to worry!

I have just test driven a 200Vi, very impressed. There was a tapping from the engine when warmed up. On reading the replys to this article, my suspicions were confirmed, (injectors or hydraulic tappets.) There was also a rattling when rev-ed coming from beneath the car, probably the cat. (Loadsa money!)

Incidentally can anybody comment and tell me if twin airbags and brake discs all round, are standard on a 1997 200 Vi?
