1995 Rover - Austin 200 214 Sei from UK and Ireland - Comments

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Car was 2yrs old with 22K on clock when I bought it - now 3.5 yrs and 35k on clock.

Needed new alternator shortly after buying it - common complaint on most makes of mid-sized family cars apparently.

Other than that nothing.

General comments?

Very smart looks - Rover alloys, metallic paint, half-leather sports seats, wood etc.

Great spec too, electrics, immboliser etc.

Overall - A beautiful looking car, quick for a 1.4, nice gear shift and safe handling.

Will probably go for the highly praised diesel next time.

12,000 miles in a year and a half is below average for yearly mileage. This is not a bad thing. The alternator problem is minor and is just the look of the draw and not the fault of the car.

Why move to diesel? Although economic, the performance is lower and after time the engine will get noisy (as with all diesel engines).

Advice: Stick with petrol. Get the injectors cleaned every 10,000 miles and you will be laughing!

I love rovers

my first car was a rover metro 1.1s

now I have a rover 114gsi

next I'm thinking of buying a rover 214 SEI

i want a 3 door one as they look better and will fit with the modifications I'm planning for it such as

17 inch mg alloys from a mg ZR

lowering it 40mm and a boot spoiler.

Its going to look sweet.
