1997 Rover - Austin 200 214i review from UK and Ireland
"Comfortable and able supermini"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Hardly anything.
The radio developed a fault after 3 months, but that's all.
The window seals are inadequate; they whistle loudly at above 60mph.
General comments?
The performance is good for an 8-valve 1.4 - plenty of torque, although not a lot of power (75bhp)
The engine itself sounds quite good, and will rev to about 7000rpm.
The handling is OK, but it tends to under-steer heavily when pushed.
Front seats are excellent - comfortable and good in corners. Not much space in the back though.
ABS not fitted.
The cat is mounted low, so a guard should be fitted if ths car is to be rallied.
