1995 Rover - Austin 200 SEi review from UK and Ireland
"Poor mans BMW 3 series"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The drivers window is not closing properly leaving a gap on one side of the frame and the remote locking fobs have an appetite for new batteries!
General comments?
Bought the car as a replacement for our 1992 216GSi auto which all I had done in 4 years was a new set of brake pads and routine servicing so it made sense to stick to the same car.
Half leather seats are good, but a little firm, but most annoyingly is the clutch which is very stiff and even a new cable has not cured it so you end up with leg ache.
Outside looks are faultless with the car looking far more upmarket than the Escort it rivaled although if you have an SEi make sure it's a 95 onwards model with colour coded bumpers.
I bought the car as it was a bargin, but I still have my old 200 GSi as I am yet convinced the SEi package with the Rover engine is a step foward over the quick brilliant Honda engine... time will tell.
I am told the SEi trim was a huge seller therefore its suprising they did not offer the Honda engine in this package with Auto and Manual options.
