1997 Rover - Austin 200 Si (k-series) from UK and Ireland - Comments

"If you are over 60 please don't buy this car, your giving it a bad image"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Small amount of oil is leaking from the side of the engine.

Split in the exhaust just behind the backbox.

Lots of rattles from the dash.

Clutch judders a bit when the engine is cold and it is sometimes hard to put into first gear. But is fine after 10 minutes or so.

Back brakes need replacing.

People tend to laugh at you from their saxos and modded cars, until you put your foot down (VTR thrasher)

General comments?

From moving up from a punto 1.1 to this 1600, I think the performance is amazing. I fly up roads now in fifth gear that my punto just about did in third.

So far the car hasen't let me down and starts as soon as I turn the key. The starter motor makes a strange crunching noise, but I'm told its the same with most rovers of this age.

The handling on the car is OK, but really needs some uprated/lowered suspension like on the later MGs.

I think this car is excellent and when I've had my alloys, big bore and suspension done I think it will be the perfect car for looks and performance.

111bhp, insurance group 7 0-60 about 9 seconds need I say more...

Great comment about the saxo vtr they have no chance, can even give them a head start n still win with ease. I have a rover 214si 16v with a carbon fibre forced induction kit and a 3 inch gtextreme back box. very quick and pretty reliable good car well impressed.

Your Starter motor is Jamming. If it is not replaced fast you will also need to buy a new Flywheel. Believe me this is super expensive.
