Exhaust gasket in the second week.
The later Coupe with the improved interior is better, the build quality is improved also.
A distictive looker with all the toys, VVC is great engine with performance and economy, very good 2nd hand buy at £7000 on a P.
Underrated coupe, low running costs, looks better than Calibras, Escorts, and others.
I don't know when this site was last commented on, but I have always been in love with the aesthetic shape of the Rover Coupe, whether it be the 1.6i or the 220 turbo, because they are all more or less the same from the outside at a stand still. Absolutely beautiful car!
Anyway, I used to have a 1.6i (honda engine) until I destroyed after a late night argument with the girlfriend (different story haha), so I instantly wanted another Rover Coupe ASAP, and the only one could find was a 218i VVC and OH MY GOD!!, what a difference for an extra 200cc of engine. I`ve looked at the original stats and I swear to god it feels faster than that.
Also I`ve got 225 tyres on it and the grip (for a front wheel drive) beggars belief. Anyway my point is to anyone who might purchase one of these soon to be classics, is considering how little they go for, I honestly don't think you can get a better buy.
By the way insurance isn't cheap; last year I paid as a 23 ywar old £1400, and that's with driving for 4 years with 2years no claims (group16 for the 216i and group 18 for the 218i vvc) But worth every penny!!!
